México Returns to Challenger, Canada Crowned, and Dominican Republic Victorious in the 2024 Rugby Americas North Sevens

The 2024 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Sevens was welcomed by Trinidad andTobago Rugby Union (TTRU), their rugby community and local dignitaries and ambassadors across the three-day competition in Arima, Trinidad. Larry Gomes Stadium and an enthusiastic crowd were treated to exciting tries, big hits, and passionate moments from the 18 teams competing.

Men's Tier 2

The four-team round robin featured three Associate Members of RAN in Curaçao, Dominican Republic, and Turks & Caicos Islands – and one Full Member of RAN in St. Vincent & The Grenadines. Despite spirited play throughout every match, Dominican Republic, who last competed in 2022 in Mexico City, had a perfect campaign and allowed no tries scored against. They defeated Curaçao in the Men’s Tier 2 Cup Final 22-0. You can find all scores from the tournament here.

With no full member union finishing first in this portion of the competition, there will be no promotion from Men’s Tier 2 into Tier 1 for 2025.

Men's Tier 1

With two pools of four teams decided based on previous year's rankings, the Men's Tier 1 quarter finals were set after Canada and México topped their pools. Canada faced Trinidad & Tobago in the Cup Final, the home team's first final in nine years, where the Canadians continued their perfect performance with a 38-0 win. Winning the Men's Tier 1 bracket complete the first step for Canada's Men's sevens program on the journey back to the SVNS Series with qualification for the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025. Trinidad & Tobago, as well as Jamaica after their 12-0 bronze medal victory over México, qualified their U20s programs for the 2025 Junior PanAmerican Games in Asunción, Paraguay. Bermuda stole the 5th Place plate in overtime against the Cayman Islands, scoring a gold try in the first few phases of the third period. Guyana narrowly defeated Barbados thanks to a converted kick, 12-10, to lock in a seventh place finish while Barbados finished last in the Men's Tier 1 bracket.

With no full member union finishing first in the Men’s Tier 2 portion of the competition, there will be no relegation from Men’s Tier 1 for 2025.

Women's

The six-team round robin resulted in a #1 México vs #2 Jamaica, #3 Trinidad & Tobago vs #4 Dominican Republic, and #5 vs #6 Trinidad & Tobago 'B' on the final day of competition. The rivalry between México and Jamaica proved to remain one of RAN's strongest rivalries. Jamaica led the first half, but both teams continued to compete. A last-play try sealed the deal though for the Serpientes to defeat Jamaica 19-12 and book their ticket back to the Sevens Challenger. Both sides qualified their U20s programs for the Junior PanAmerican Games in Asunción, Paraguay in 2025 with their first and second place finishes. The home team's first side took down Dominican Republic 29-0, ensuring Trinidad & Tobago walked away with bronze. Trinidad & Tobago 'B' bounced back from their pool play loss to Barbados to finish fifth pace, 22-5 over Barbados.
