August 9, 2019 – International rugby is set to kick off this weekend in Paraguay with the inaugural Rugby Americas Challenge Under-20 Men’s competitionHosted by Sudamérica Rugby and the Paraguay Rugby Union, this four-team round-robin style tournament will be played at the Héroes de Curupaytí Stadium in Asunción. Chile, Colombia, Paraguay & Mexico will all compete for the tournament title.
The annual tournament was created to provide high performance opportunities for the next tier of Americas Rugby nations alongside the senior Americas Rugby Challenge that will be played again in Medellín, Colombia at the end of the month.“The Americas Rugby Challenge Under-20 is a key tournament for continuing the growth and development in the growth unions within the Americas, underpinning the recent success of the Americas Rugby Championship and Americas Rugby Challenge senior competitions,” said Dan Payne, Rugby Americas Chief Executive Officer.“There’s now a distinct pathway that connects the ARC and ARCH senior competitions to the pinnacle event, the Rugby World Cup. Developing the age grade competitions to underpin that pathway is imperative as we utilize competition as the vehicle to drive growth within the Americas region.”The tournament will begin on Sunday, August 11 with two matches (kick off time TBC), the second round will be on Wednesday, August 14 and the finale of the tournament on Saturday, August 17.
