The Chileans worked hard but overall a focused home side deserved the win in a much-better performance than the one managed a week earlier in a snowed field.On a perfect pitch and weather conditions at the same Westhills Stadium, in Langford, the Canadians enjoyed the bonus-point win in front of a loud full ground. Chile surprised everybody with their committed play in the opening quarter. Wing Tomás Ianzeewski kicked a seventh minute penalty to show for the pressure they put the home side under. It took almost twenty minutes for the Canadians to score their first try, with Taylor Paris touching down after swift ball movement from a scrum, two minutes after Chile’s Francisco Cruz had been sin-bined.Captain Gordon McRorie added a penalty on the 30th minute and Paris got his first-half brace after he kicked ahead and collected a loose ball after weird bounce. Paris, who in the last move of the first half thought he’d got his hat-trick when referee called him back for an earlier infringement was unstoppable when given his first opportunity in the second half. Centre Nick Blevins put him in with minimum space in a position to run for the try. He certainly took it.Chile came close to scoring in the 57th minute and referee Derek Summers needed a second opinion to rule that the ball had not been grounded. They did not give in and a couple of moves later, they scored their first of two tries, with loose forward Eduardo Orpis crashing from close range. Replacement back George Barton will never forget his Canadian test debut as he scored from the first ball he handled, going through a defensive wall from close to the try line and giving his team a deserved bonus point.The Chileans took their second try scoring opportunity in a rare venture in the visiting half. Replacement Rodrigo Fernández flying through some loose defense. With the last attacking opportunity, winger Dan Moor closed the scoring; the ball was spun from side to side and the absence of a Chile’s third sin-binned player, José Ignacio Larenas.Canada will host USA in the Swangaard Stadium in Vancouver next week and Chile fly home to take on Argentina XV in Talcahuano.USA 51 (13) v Brazil 3 (0)It took the USA Eagles one year to gain revenge on their loss against Brazil in Sao Paulo. At the Dell Diamond, in Austin, they beat their visitors 51-3, scoring eight tries and securing the bonus point to share the lead with Argentina XV after two rounds of the Americas Rugby Championship.USA dominated throughout the game and were clear winners, but the sticky Brazilian defence and the inability to turn possession into more points is something the Eagles will have to look at moving forward.It didn’t take long for USA to open the score, with Aaron Davis scoring the first of two first-half tries when diving in the left corner. Will Magie kicked a long up-and-under and the Brazil defence was pinned closed to their goal line and lost the ball in a ruck. The ball was spun from right to left and Davis was at the end of the passing to touch down. Magie failed with the difficult kick.Brazil struggled to get any control of the ball throughout the game and their defence generated too many penalties. Lock Luis Vieira was sinbinned in the fourteenth minute yet the Eagles were unable to score in the period. Centre JP Eloff showed all his ability and speed for the Eagles’ second try after. He was able to run around two defenders and then ran away from the last line of defence to extend the lead.The second half opened in similar fashion and the Eagles crashed for a third try when flanker Tony Lamborn was at the back of a recycled ball. Brazil’s lack of possession was so evident that when USA was penalized on the half-way line, Moisés Duque aimed and delivered a great 50-meter penalty to score their only points.Close to the hour mark, again from the back of a maul came the bonus-point try scored by reserve Cam Dolan. Brazil had two scrums five-yards away from the Eagles try-line and came very close to scoring but in the second, fullback Mike Te’o turned attack into defence with an intercept that saved his team.Twenty-five year old Tony Lamborn scored his second try after quick passing under pressure, which gave the flanker a short run to the try. Reserve flyhalf Ben Cima added the conversion. With ten minutes left, USA raised the big crowd with good play and three more tries.A tapped penalty in their own half, saw wing Nate Augspurger run fifty yards before offloading to Mike Te’o for the Eagles sixth try. Two minutes later, Bryce Campbell scored under a post after intercepting a pass 65 metres away, and in the last move, Peter Tiberio scored. Cima got, with the last kick, his fourth conversion, for his team to cross the 50-point mark.USA has a trip to Vancouver where the Eagles will take on Canada. Will Magie pateó un balón que puso a Brasil bajo presión cerca de su propio ingoal; la perdieron en el ruck y el pasamanos terminó con el wing apoyando en la bandera.A los brasileños se les complicó el control del balón durante todo el encuentro y su defensa, si bien exitosa en frenar a los locales, lo hizo dando demasiados penales.
