Rugby Americas North Announce Superweek Details

Rugby Americas North (RAN) announced today the schedule for the Men’s U19 Championships, as well as details about the Women’s 10s tournament and several rugby development activities that will take place from July 9th-16th in Miami, Florida. The 11 day event has been dubbed RAN Superweek as it will feature 23 matches, 14 teams and a variety of administrative and educational events to further develop rugby in the region. The focus of the week is the Men’s U19 tournament which runs from Saturday the 9th through Saturday the 16th. Started in 2003, the annual tournament has become an important competition for regional teams. The winner of tournament is eligible to represent RAN in the Sudamerica Rugby Under 18 tournament in August. “We see this as a vital component to the continued expansion of rugby in the Caribbean and Mexico,” said Niall Brooks, RAN General Manager. “Many of our unions use the tournament as a stepping stone to expose players who will be competing in senior-side rugby.”In it’s 13 years of existence the tournament has grown from just three teams to ten teams competing this year in Miami. Mexico Rugby has taken the tournament title the past two years and Cayman Islands have also been a dominant force in the region throughout the years. A Women’s 10s tournament has been added to the lineup this year. Like the Men’s U19 competition, the tournament will serve as an important venue for unions looking to develop their sides through additional international playing opportunities. In much of the region, women’s 15-a-side rugby has yet to take off, thus a regional 10s tournament serves as an important development event. Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Jamaica and USA South will be competing on the July 14th-15th. Off the field RAN has a full schedule of development and administrative activities planned. Kicking off the Superweek will be a First Aid in Rugby (FAIR) course on July 10th and 11th for all team managers and coaches. Mid-week, players will also be attending a presentation by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Thursday also begins the two-day Leading Rugby Workshop. The workshop will be attended by representatives from each union and will focus on important regional development initiatives and goals. Included in the program will be a presentation on the rapid advance of rugby in Peru, effective use of social media platforms and developing player welfare programs. Unions will also be asked to revisit long-term Participation Development Pathways, especially for girls and women. Rounding out the schedule will be a Match Commissioner Course and the RAN General Meeting on Saturday, July 16th. Rugby matches kick off on Saturday, July 9th at 4:00 p.m. The final day’s play in the U19 tournament will take place on Saturday, July 16th. All matches will be streamed on the new RAN Rugby Youtube Channel and fans can find scores and more information by searching #RANSuperweek on social media or by visiting the event page.DATE & TIMEACTIVITYFriday, July 8th:TBD (evening)Managers MeetingSaturday, July 9th:8:30-11:30 amFAIR Course2:00 PMMatch 1: Pool A: Mexico v TCI4:00 PMMatch 2: Pool B: USA South v BermudaSunday, July 10th:8:30 am - 11:30 amFAIR Course2:00 PMMatch 3: Trophy RR1: Jamaica v St Lucia4:00 PMMatch 4: Trophy RR1: Guyana v BahamasMonday, July 11th:2:00 PMMatch 5: Pool A: Cayman v TCI4:00 PMMatch 6: Pool B: T&T v BermudaTuesday, July 12th:2:00 PMMatch 7: Trophy RR2: Jamaica v Guyana4:00 PMMatch 8: Trophy RR2: St Lucia v BahamasWednesday, July 13th:9:00 am - 5:00 pmMC Course2:00 PMMatch 9: Pool A: Mexico v Cayman4:00 PMMatch 10: Pool B: USA South v T&TThursday, July 14th:9:00 am - 5:00 pmMC Course9:00 am - 5:00 PMDay 1 Leading Rugby Workshop2:30 PMWomen's 10s - M1: USA South v T&T3:00 PMWomen's 10s - M2: Bahamas v Jamaica4:30 PMWomen's 10s - M3: T&T v Bahamas5:00 PMWomen's 10s - M4: USA South v JamaicaFriday, July 15th:9:00 am - 5:00 pmMC Course9:00 am - 5:00 PMDay 2 Leading Rugby Workshop11:00 AMMatch 11: Trophy RR3:Jamaica v Bahamas1:00 PMMatch 12: Trophy RR3: St Lucia v Guyana2:30 PMWomen's 10s - M5: T&T v Jamaica3:00 PMWomen's 10s - M6: USA South v Bahamas4:30 PMWomen's 10s - M7: 3rd v 4th5:00 PMWomen's 10s - M8: 1st v 2ndSaturday, July 16th:9:00 am - 5:00 pmMC Course9:00 am - 12:00 pmGeneral Meeting2:00 PMMatch 13: Cup 5th / 6th play-off: 3rd Pool A v 3rd Pool B4:00 PMMatch 14: Cup 3rd / 4th Play-off: 2nd Pool a v 2nd Pool B6:00 PMMatch 15: Cup Final: Winner Pool A v Winner Pool B
