CITY OF MIRAMAR, Florida -- The annual weeklong international competition for Rugby Americas North (RAN) Men’s U19s and Women’s 10s tournaments will return to Vizcaya Park in the City of Miramar from July 15 through the 22, 2017. Seven men’s teams from the RAN region and one from the Sudamerica Rugby (SAR) region will compete throughout the week for the 2017 title and the opportunity to represent RAN in the SAR U18 tournament in 2018. USA Rugby South, Trinidad & Tobago, Mexico and Jamaica Women’s 10s teams will also compete on July 20 and 21 in a round-robin format. This year marks the 15th year of the Men’s U19 tournament, and the second for the Women’s 10 competition.“We are pleased once again to be hosting the RAN U19s and Women’s 10s in Miami,” said RAN’s General Manager, Niall Brooks. “This will be the third year that USA South, on behalf of USA Rugby have hosted the event and the good weather, great playing venue and affordability of Miami makes hosting in Florida a very attractive proposition for RAN. This year all games should be competitive with the added attraction of a representative side from South America participating in the U19 competition.”Vizcaya Park and the City of Miramar are located approximately 40 minutes north of Miami. The park is a 20-acre facility with a 7,600 square foot community center and a regulation size rugby pitch with warm-up area. “The hosting of this event has placed the City of Miramar in the fold of choice destinations desired for local, national and international sporting events. We are excited about the opportunity to welcome back Rugby Americas North to experience the great amenities Miramar has to offer while continuing to build a strong, long-lasting relationship,” stated Terrence Griffith, Director of Parks and Recreation. The week of rugby will kick off with a Rookie Rugby Mini-Camp, hosted by Okapi Wanderers Rugby Club. The free camp for ages 5-12 will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15th and families are invited to stay for the 4:00 p.m. match between USA Rugby South and Jamaica. Light snacks will be provided.
